- Make payment with a credit card, PayPal, check or money order
- Complete and mail our notarized Power of Attorney form
- Provide Proof of Ownership (see below for further instructions)
- Provide Proof of Payment of Sales Tax if applicable (see below for further instructions)
Renewal Trailer Registration In Maine
If you currently have a Maine registration about to expire:
- Complete the online application
- Make payment with a credit card, PayPal, check or money order
- Provide us with a copy of your current State of Maine registration
- Complete and mail our notarized Power of Attorney form
Transfer Registration In Maine
If you currently have a Maine trailer plate and registration and are transferring to a different trailer:
- Complete the online application
- Contact us to indicate you need a transfer registration
- Make payment with a credit card, PayPal, check or money order
- Provide us with Proof of Ownership for the trailer you are transferring your current registration to
- Mail us your original yellow Maine registration (keep a copy in your vehicle until you receive your transferred registration)
If this is the first time using our service:
- Complete and mail our notarized Power of Attorney form
Proof of Ownership
If your trailer is a 1995 or newer model:
Net weight over 3000 lbs.
- Copy of title from any state with your name printed on the front or
- Original title or certificate of origin signed over to you
- We will need to obtain you a Maine title in your name
- Additional fee of $55.00 for title Application
- Mail us the original
Net weight under 3000 lbs.
- Copy of title from any state with your name printed on the front or
- Copy of title from any state signed over to you
- Notarized Bill of Sale
If your trailer is a 1994 or older model:
- Copy of title from any state with your name printed on the front or
- Copy of title from any state signed over to you or
- Notarized Bill of Sale or
- Prior registration from any state with your name on the front
Proof of Payment of Sales Tax
All trailers are subject to sales tax unless your trailer is used for interstate commerce 80% of the time or sales tax has previously been paid. Sufficient proof of sales tax paid is one of the following:
- A copy of a previous registration in your name from any state or
- A bill of sale showing sales tax paid or
- A sales tax receipt showing sales tax paid
*If sales tax has not previously been paid and your trailer is not used for interstate commerce, the State of Maine will charge you 5.5% of the purchase price for sales tax.
NOTE: plates will be mailed first class postage in approximately 10-14 business days after we receive your documents.
